H.I.M. Marriage Conference March-April 2007

The Eagle Mountain House in Jackson, New Hampshire, warmly hosted H.I.M.'s second marriage conference of the 2006–2007 season on the weekend of March 30–April 1. This popular conference, which was sold out and had a waiting list, was "the best conference ever" according to one attendee.

Dr. David Hegg and his bride of 30 years, Cherylyn, flew in from Corona, California, to speak on "Mission Possible: Having a Blockbuster Marriage" and did so with credibility and conviction. David is a theologian with much practical wisdom and he challenged and inspired all through his teaching and modeling, which were exceptional. When not teaching, the Heggs were very available and accessible which increased their effectiveness exponentially.

Worship was lead by Erik and Marlene Kerr, and accompanied by Scott Shattuck. Long time favorites, the Kerrs lead with passion and sensitivity to the Holy Spirit in their humble, non-performance style. Erik did entertain the crowd Saturday night with a concert featuring many of his own songs, which were diverse in style and message and reflective of his immense giftedness.

Numerous workshops were offered Saturday and Sunday and all were well attended. Along with a number of tried and true topics such as temperaments, in-law relationships, and keeping your marriage alive, several new workshops debuted. Dr. Seth and Melanie Bilazarian lead a well-received session on maintaining balance in life between work, marriage, and family, and did so quite credibly and humorously,
speaking from the challenges of syncing a medical career with the needs of their five children, all the while upholding faith and community values. Dr. Ryan and Kelly Plosker lead a workshop which challenged young marrieds to set their sights on having a "7% marriage," which was so powerful they've been asked to present it to all marrieds at next year's conferences.

In addition to the spiritual food which was solid and bountiful, the Eagle Mountain House cheerfully served up fabulous meals in their quaint, historical restaurant. Rave reviews were expressed about each of the buffets, which culminated with a phenomenal brunch Sunday. Most assuredly, none left hungry.

By God's grace, none seemed to leave untouched spiritually as well. In the midst of much spiritual warfare leading up to and during the conference, God showed up in a big way. In the words of one attendee:

"The H.I.M. marriage retreat 2007 was an awe-inspiring event for us! What a saving grace for our marriage . . . We have been caught in the throws of some difficult times. God knew our need for time alone, renewal, refreshment, and laughter, and He gave it to us at the retreat that weekend. I am always brought to tears by your faithfulness and your vision for solid, healthy relationships which focus on the Lord. We attended workshops with the Heggs and the Bilazarians and both were excellent. We left the weekend being reminded of God's great love for us, as well as having a renewed sense of our love for each other. It was a gift straight from heaven."
